So, it has been a while since I posted last. It was a crazy ride of 2019 on my part and yet, here I am posting about food. Hi there, dearie!
If there is one thing one couldn’t live without, I
guess that would be food. Any person dealing with the stressors of life will
probably turn to food to give them comfort and satisfaction. With the hustles
and bustles on the street and the hurly-burly from work, there is no better way
to kick off a day with a scrumptious meal on your plate. As a foreigner living in Singapore, I have always been amazed by the picturesque sceneries of this
country as well as the food it offers not only to its tourists but to its
locals as well. After
a long week of working, Singapore defies the “common” by having busy streets loudly
opened to everyone especially during weekends. Not only that people will have their
eyes set on the lights and murals of this particular street but also welcome
the vibe of every restaurant in every corner of Arab Street. Yes dearie! You read
it right! Arab Street is one of the busiest and craziest streets in Singapore.
Known for the emergence of different cultures, Arab Street particularly Haji
Lane delights everyone by simply existing. The existence of its colourfully-painted
walls makes it an attraction for every passerby in the area. The different hues
vividly painted on the walls, windows, corners and any surrounding establishment
in the area actually complement any OOTD (Outfit of the Day) you are wearing. Regardless
of what day, Haji Lane has made its way to the top attractive spot in Singapore
where tourists usually enjoy gallivanting and picture taking spicing it up with
its delicate and bursting flavours poured out onto the dishes each resto has. Every
Singaporean knows that Arab Street (specifically Haji Lane) does not only offer
a platter of Arabian food but also, the taste of different cultures is offered there
making people vie for which café or bistro immersed their burning fervor of flavours.
As I walk on the streets of Bugis, there is one café that offers Halal food on
the loud and proud streets of Bugis and as a curious foodie, I was fascinated
by how serene the place was - Street Submarine. The shop actually offers burgers, chips,
chicken and other street food while you’re on your way to exploring more of the
area. Operating from one of the humble shophouses at Haji Lane, Street
Submarine has both indoor and outdoor seats. Do take note that the place is
only good for small groups as the tables here can only fit around two to five
people. There is never a dull moment in this place because a lot of customers,
whether it be Malays, Indians, Chinese, Filipinos, Caucasians, are occupying
the space ergo, this has definitely made a mark to its valued customers
thus the food it offers really tastes great. This restaurant is the only
restaurant that offers Ice Kepal Milo (in Singapore) but since it was night
when I hopped there, it was no longer avaible so I chose the lime juice instead
since I ordered something spicy, Beef Rendang Sausage topped with lots and lots
of rendang sauce accompanied by beef rotisserie. That is a total haven and heaven!
So, if you are going out with your friends, be it night or day, try to explore the
streets of Bugis and you will not only find Instagram-worthy spots but also food
that will truly satisfy your tummies and soul.
